First Invader Zim movie footage revealed, looks gloriously weird

Over two minutes of Enter the Florpus includes familiar faces, no release date.

  • In addition to showing off some serious Spumco vibes, this scene appears to indicate that Dib has (once again) gone into hiding and become disgusting in the years since the series’ last televised antics. (This plot line has appeared in the Zim comics.)
    Nickelodeon
  • Zim and Gir emphasize fitness in their comeback via a workout montage.
  • Get swole, dudes.
  • Gaz rocks out while playing guitar for some reason.
  • Gaz also apparently dons a spacesuit to save the day.
  • Zim’s automated robotic house puts the final touches on his “human” costume.
  • The house also helps put his robotic parents in order.
  • Dib eventually cleans up.
  • He even looks happy for a moment.
  • The Almighty Tallest are disappointed in Zim.
  • Here, the Tallest review Zim’s “progress.”
  • I assume once dialogue is added to the scene, it will include maniacal laughter.
  • What exactly does “phase two” entail?
  • Gir offers an answer: a pizza party!
  • Pizza party continues with Gir appreciating the pizza.
  • And it continues still with Gir deciding to add more deliciousness to the floor food pile.
  • Slightly updated animated logo.

After vague teasers and announcements, Nickelodeon and Jhonen Vasquez have finally taken the wraps off the first Invader Zim made-for-TV movie, which is still currently in production.

The demented brains behind the series appeared at this week’s San Diego Comic Con with a new trailer in hand, which also confirms the film’s full title: Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. However, this video footage is still labeled as a “teaser,” since pretty much all of its dialogue and sound effects are silenced in favor of a musical score.

The result is 2 minutes, 30 seconds of familiar characters—the primary foursome of Zim, Dib, Gir, and Gaz, along with Zim’s fake robo-parents and the Almighty Tallest—looking pretty much identical to the series’ original TV run. (This is unsurprising, considering many of the film’s production staff has worked on the faithful Zim comic-book series from Oni Press for years.)

Without any dialogue, we can only offer guesses and context in the above gallery of what to expect. The footage appears to tell a familiar series story of Zim and Dib facing off, Zim facing disapproval from his alien masters, and Gir acting like an idiot. Should you wish to come up with your own theories of what to expect, watch the full trailer below. Nickelodeon has yet to confirm a release date for the made-for-TV movie.
